What is sport around the world and who can play? Nowadays if we think about sport it might bring to our mind various competitive disciplines, statuesque bodies and under the rigid control of the scale, great efforts to win a game or burn all the calories, major sporting events made possible by huge economic investments and correlated by codified social rituals.
But throughout the world, sport is usually only available when practised on the basis of sex assigned at birth and ability, access to sport is influenced on the basis of geographical origin and ethnicity of those who play, as well as being an instrument of social division when it is based solely on competition and when it is used to generate patriotism. Sport is therefore used as an instrument of power to control our bodies, of social division and endorsement of the capitalist mentality.
Can we instead imagine sport as a healthy and enjoyable space? As an inclusive place where each person can build self-esteem, confidence and empowerment? A space to take back and rethink together, changing the rules to favour the participation of all with our differences? A place that unites us?
At the 2023 International Ultragender Camp, people of all sexes, genders, gender identities and sexualities will critically reflect on, talk about and even play sport! We invite all participants to take part in this workshop by sharing their experiences of sport using an intersectional lens to examine sports participation. Through experiential activities, creative interventions, small group discussions, chats at the bar, and inclusive games in the midst of nature, we will spend a week together to practice the joy of accessible movement. Come and play with us!
Participating in a camp at Agape means to take a part in the community life of the Center for a week. Those who come to Agape, whether to take part in a camp, in a study visit or to spend some time off, are invited to respect some rules.- Participants accept taking part in the camp life and its educational activities entirely.
- In case you leave in advance, fees won’t be reimbursed, not even partially.
- Guests have to bring a valid ID.
- We ask each participant to help setting the table and drying dishes, both because it is a necessary support and because to us, this is a way of sharing our work.
- Agape is not responsible for accidents or damage happening during the camps in case of violation of internal rules. The Center is responsible for participants’ cash and belongings only if these are given to Agape to be kept in a safe. Agape will ask for the refund of any damage caused by the guests.
- During winter time, it snows in Agape (which is at 1,600 meters a.s.l.). You will need to bring warm and comfortable clothes and shoes.
- The rooms have three or four beds each and bathrooms are on the same floor. There are no single or double rooms. Agape provides sheets and blankets, but guests are required to bring their own towels.
- Due to health and safety rules, it is not allowed to bring dogs or other animals to Agape.
- Agape cannot provide medicines. Since the pharmacy in Prali is not open every day, you will need to bring the medicine you need with you.
